Point-of-care ultrasonography in acute kidney injury

Point-of-care ultrasonography (POCUS) is a clinician-performed, goal-directed ultrasound examination intended to answer focused clinical questions at the bedside.

In the field of nephrology (and some other specialties), POCUS is evolving into an essential adjunct to conventional physical examination.

POCUS is an important and valuable tool in understanding the etiology of AKI when interpreted along with relevant clinical and laboratory data.

Moreover, it also aids in monitoring the efficacy of therapeutic measures such as decongestive treatments.
