Pathophysiology of distributive shock in sepsis beyond vasoplegia

Septic shock is more than circulatory failure due to vasoplegia. It involves profound disturbances at microvascular, metabolic, neuroendocrine, myocardial and neural levels. This emphasises the need for integrative diagnostic strategies, new therapeutic approaches, and new forms of care targeting microcirculatory, metabolic, endocrine, myocardial and neural homeostasis to improve outcomes.
